Dishwasher Controls Flash and Blink and Dishwasher Won’t Start

Dishwasher Controls Flash and Blink and Dishwasher Won't StartA dishwasher with flashing controls that refuses to start might have an easy fix – it could have the child lock or control lock turned on, or a delay wash option selected which will not allow the dishwasher to start.

Whether the dishwasher is made by Whirlpool, Maytag, GE or LG, many of them have child locks that prevent the dishwasher controls from being activated when the child lock is active. To clear the lock, try pressing the control lock for four seconds to disable, or consult the owner’s manual on how to clear.

The delay wash allows the dishwasher’s cycle to run during a later time. To cancel delay wash, simple press cancel/drain to cancel the delay cycle and then press start or resume the cycle. If that does not work, consult the owner’s manual or search on the internet for “how to cancel the delay wash function.”

If neither of these options works, the control panel might be displaying an error code or fault code. Use the internet to search for the error code, plus the make and model of the dishwasher, to find the meaning behind the code along with possible solutions. Or, consult the dishwasher’s owner’s manual.
