Shopping around and comparing prices can save you money, as everyone knows, but telling the place you are calling that you are doing this might just spur a better deal.
According to Kevin Brasler of the Delaware Valley Consumer’s Checkbook, (“When buying appliances, consider more than just price”) mentioning that you’re contacting multiple stores for price quotes can often spur discounts, delivery fee and installation fee waivers.
This tactic also works on big box, big chain stores, although the wait time to finally speak to an appliance-department sales managers, took some time. Save yourself the on-hold time by doing this by e-mail.
