Should I Buy All Stainless Steel Appliances?

Modern Kitchen with Stainless Steel AppliancesIs stainless steel still the best finish option when it comes to buying new appliances? It all depends on taste and how long you plan on staying in your home. writes, “…studies are still showing that stainless steel has the most popularity. Stainless appliances will be a safe choice for at least another 5 or 10 years. If you want to play it safe, choose stainless.”

Meaning, that if you plan to do a kitchen remodel and are planning on selling your home soon, get stainless steel appliances because they will still be appealing to a wide-range of buyers.

Steve Sheinkopf, CEO at Yale Appliance and Lighting, also foresees stainless steel remaining popular for years to come and he lists the reasons on his blog post, “Is Stainless Steel Out For Kitchen Appliance Packages?”

“Stainless steel will still dominate as the predominant finish for the near future. I don’t see any other finish on the horizon as a suitable alternative. Look to add color as a focal on a couple pieces,” writes Sheinkopf.

If you are sick of stainless steel and definitely want something different, appliance manufacturers do have other options for you. Whirlpool, KitchenAid and GE, are coming out with new appliance finishes that they hope will be as popular as stainless steel, according to Yale Appliance and Lighting. Some of the finishes trying to rival stainless steel are “sunset bronze,” “black stainless,” and “slate,” a matte grey.

According to an article by Houzz, a home improvement and interior design website and online community, nearly two-thirds of Houzzers say they would consider black stainless steel to shiny silver metal.

What do you think? Are you planning on buying new appliances anytime soon? Will they be stainless steel or some other finish?
